Yeah Kids

Despite the long nights with sick kids and the antics they play on your emotions, once in a while you get a sense of pride and joy because of what they provide. Today was one of those days.

Today my son turns 10.5 which is the minimum age for a boy (in the U.S. Scouting program) to attain his Arrow of Light (AOL) award which is the highest award given to a Cub Scout. Upon receiving his AOL, he will be eligible to cross into our school's Boy Scout troop. I'm proud of his motivation (and tolerance of my nagging) in achieving this milestone. Many boys are unable to complete the Webelos and AOL in one year. Because of quality planning and dedication of the leaders (one who is no longer involved), he was able to accomplish this goal easily. Way to go boy!

As for my oldest daughter, she is another story! She has been attending gymnastics classes since she was three years old. We took a break when the twins were born (!) but she re-entered this past fall. Well, off and on my wife has had conversations with my daughter's and other coaches. The comments are fairly consistent; she has a natural ability with gymnastics. Trying to remain objective, I've observed the same thing. But there is something else. Its the game face. When she's in gymnastics, she is all business. Yep, at four years old she is crunching through situps without a wimper. Well, the coach approached my wife again and basically said "Its time - move her up to the team". So here we go, my baby is now going to compete!
